How and when did you get started training for a healthy and active body lifestyle?
Jan 7th 2013 was my first day in a gym training. I was up north working for Cenovus Energy. It was a small camp gym and I was all alone. Fell in love.
Do you have goal setting techniques? Short term and long term goals?
My goal is to stick with it, make slow and steady gains and hopefully make it to Nationals.
How do you remain motivated? Any tips for anyone wanting to get in great shape and or thinking about competing in your sport?
Seeing progress is all I need for motivation, the way I feel after a workout, that time alone just me and my music it’s a coping mechanism for me.
How do you keep track of your progress?
I use the weights to keep me in check, am I gaining strength, is it time to switch to supersets or pyramid training. I’m still new to the sport and have to find what works best for me. I don’t like to weigh myself, that number means very little to me. I weigh my heaviest now and I look my best.
What types of cardio have worked best for you?
Cardio and I don’t get along. I despise cardio, I don’t like fasted cardio at all. I usually do HIIT cardio post weights. About 35 minutes and never more than 45.
What’s your favorite healthy recipe?
Mug Cake (kind of a cheat)
½ C Egg white
1 scoop Whey Protein powder
Scoop of all natural PB
Scoop of strawberry Jam
Mix together in a Coffee Cup and microwave for about a minute. Slice strawberries on top and drizzle with organic chocolate sauce.
What does your diet consist off?
Egg whites and oats, chicken, white fish or lean steak and vegetables.
I eat yams, and brown rice for 5 meals a day when I am bulking. I recently did a show and now am playing with my diet a bit to see what works for me. I only consume carbs in the morning during my first meal. After that I eat 5 meals consisting of 5-6 oz of lean protein and vegetables. (post weights in my shake I have a half of a banana as well)
What do you do to deal with craving for salty foods, sweets, and junk foods?
If I’m prepping for a show and I am having cravings I find something to do, take the kids out to the park with the soccer ball, or wash my truck, get out of the house. I have a very busy life so I tend to be on the road a lot. If I am not prepping for a show and I find myself having a craving I usually have a quest bar or a scoop of PB. I love PB. (sugar free jello too; I keep a bowl of that in the fridge)
What are your top 3 exercises?
I love dumbbell rows on back day, I love the squat rack, and I love flat bench.
Do you listen to music while you train? If yes what type(s)?
I have to listen to music, I actually do not like to train with anyone. I love to be alone and focused. I listen to a lot of older country actually, all depends on my mood.
Right now my recently played is Shooting Stars by Bag Raiders, Sloppy Seconds Watsky, and I’m in a hurry by Florida Georgia line.
I train weights 5 days a week, Mon Tues, Cardio Wednesday, Thur Fri and I love a good long Leg day Sat with cardio. I love big legs and bums so I like to do legs twice a week.
Do you have any role models or athletes you look up too?
Honestly, No. I get all choked up and proud of the people that are at the gym and trying, the woman who is starting out on her fitness journey. Those are the people I look up to, the real people. The people that are there and putting in the work. Not the people who go there to socialize.
What do you enjoy the most about competing in the Physique Category?
I compete in Physique Short. I love my category because I feel like I belong in it. I am not a Bikini girl, I have far too much mass, I’m short and stalky. Also I meet a lot of great Physique woman at my all my shows. I really feel like we are our own breed.
What supplements do you take?
What tips would you give to any men wanting to have an active body physique like yours?
Stay away from alcohol and people who tend to drink often. It doesn’t fit with this lifestyle. So say good bye to it.
