Breanne Seward (Port Moody, BC)
– Tell us about what’s your philosophy about training?
I strongly believe in having balance in every aspect of your life. You must be disciplined, determined, and focused to achieve your goals. It’s monumental as a mother to make time for myself, my son, and my husband. As a trainer I believe if you want to do something just do it! Don’t make excuses and complain. Take responsibility and follow your path to achieve whatever you set your mind too.
– What supplements and vitamins do you believe in and supplement with?
On a daily basis I supplement with Absolute Carnitine, Absolute xtra-lene, phytofuel, vitamin C, elite B (B-complex with spirulina), Probiotics, and digestive enzymes. These supplements take care of the whole spectrum of being healthy and in great shape. Boost my immune function, absorption of nutrients, and fat loss. As a mother my goal is to stay fit and healthy all year long and these supplements help me greatly.
– When did you start training for competition?
I have been an athlete my whole life. I competed in figure skating and dance since I was 3 years old. Doing core and body weight exercises led me to cardio and weight training and in 2008 I started my journey competing in Figure.
-What do you enjoy the most about being an Elite Trainer and Athlete?
As a trainer I love the fact I’m changing people’s lives. I’m grateful for my clients and their loyalty. I love when they tell me I played an instrumental role in their lives, which is very valuable. As an athlete I love seeing the change my body goes through with the intense training and nutrition.
-What was your most enjoyable experience as a competitive athlete in your chosen sport?
What I enjoy the most was to be able to use the sport and how well I did competing as an avenue for me to help other women and men achieve their goals. To give back my knowledge about training, supplementation, and nutrition. To change lives, that’s what I have enjoyed the most.
– How many days a week do you exercise and how much time do you spend per training session when getting ready for contest?
I do cardio for usually 30 minutes in the morning, I feel like it’s the best way to start my day. I typically train weights later in the afternoon five days per week with another 30 minutes of cardio after I’ve weight trained. In total about an hour and a half a day.
– As a mother on a everyday basis not competing what do you do to stay in shape?
I walk with the baby in the stroller for 45 min mostly uphill and I do cardio for another 30min at home while he is napping. Shortly after cardio I’ll do bodyweight exercises incorporating a combination of calisthenics and plyometrics with weight training and core.
-What’s your secret to staying motivated in the on season and off season?
I always like to feel healthy, confident, and energized. So my secret is simply balance. Always eat right, exercise, and supplement.
– What does a typical day of your nutritional program look like for you as a every day mom compared to as a competitor?
I measured everything. Protein, fats, and carbohydrates. I follow a specific dietary plan based on my goals.
I eat less protein. More fruits and vegetables and less starches. I consume a lot of healthy fats such as almond butter, salmon, avocado, peanut butter. I also drink wine on occasion
– What tips would you give to anyone wanting to compete in your sport of choice?
Go see a show first. Educate yourself on what you are getting into. Are you ready not only mentally but also financially? Do you have the time to train up too 2 hours a day 6 days a week for 12-16 weeks? Have you looked into how much will it cost you to do a show? Hire a good trainer to guide you through the process.
